About Me

January March 2014

How did it get to March? On further reflection, how did it get to 2014? And how did I get to Sweden? Oh, by MAGIC SOARING METAL BIRD AND FRIENDS*!

Anyway, so a lot has changed in the 14 months since I last updated my About Me. By a lot I basically mean everything. About halfway through 2013 I visited a little town in the south west of Sweden called Halmstad, for the purpose of visiting my girlfriend (who I had not yet revealed on my blog because I wanted to make a big deal about it because she was also a blogger and the story behind us was pretty sweet – you should go back and read that in this post here) and also to size the place up to see if I could live there. I found my answer pretty quickly and in January of this year I left everything and everyone I’ve spent most of my life with behind in Australia to move permanently to Sweden to be with the girl I love. It was the best thing I have ever done, even though it was also one of the hardest, most upsetting and challenging things to leave Australia, my friends and my family like that. Sometimes we just have to make impossible decisions in life, and that was a big one for me.

Of course, I haven’t transformed into some completely different person. I never liked the heat, so I’m loving being in a colder climate all the time (I seem to enjoy it more than the locals). I am very likely about to go back into teaching in the very near future and continue my career there. I am most definitely still writing, and am taking on two writing challenges in the next month with more to come later in the year. I should really start to take a more focused approach to learning Swedish, because, you know, that’ll be handy seeing as though I live here now. I am slowly converting the population of Sweden to eating burgers the Australian way, one by one (and by Australian way I basically mean with salad and most importantly beetroot – try it, it is amazing). Once I have a bit of money behind me, I’m going to start exploring the country some more too.

I’m still the same book loving, novel writing, music obsessed, coffee drinking, wine gulping silly person I’ve always been. I’m just 16000 kilometres away from where I last updated my about page, that’s all.

Please feel free to leave comments and to contact me (contact details are directly below). Keep being your awesome selves!

*Magic Soaring Metal Bird And Friends is a new hit TV show, book series, movie series, audio series and series of collectable toys that I’ll be releasing later on this year.**

**This may be a slight exaggeration. Or blatant lie. Although I totally could write a story like this, right?

Contacting me:

Feel free to leave comments here there and everywhere on my blog. If you wish to contact me though other means, you can send me mail by homing pigeon, use telekinesis to rearrange the letters on my fridge, or hire a sky-writer to put a message up in the sky. Otherwise, I generally steer away from a lot of social networking (because it’s just so time consuming!), but I do use GoodReads (the Reading Challenge counter on the right hand side of my blog links you to my profile, which is easier than trying to find me by name), and I also use Twitter. Lately I’ve even started using Instagram.

My Instagram is theotherwatson which is remarkably like my WordPress username so that I don’t forget it. My Twitter is @abritishperson and this is mostly because I am a British person (who lives in Australia Sweden). I could have thought of a wittier username, such as “notanaussiepersonbybirth” or “dudewholikestoreadbooks”, but I panicked and went for the obvious (actually, I wanted to see if anybody had taken it, thinking somebody surely would have…the rest, as they say, is history. Or the future, if I were a time traveller. You never know). Anyway, feel free to follow me – I don’t bite (unless you’re a sandwich). And let me know who you are so I can follow you back (unless you’re a sandwich. Seriously, why would I follow a sandwich? That doesn’t even make sense)!

January 2013

It’s been over a year, so it’s time to update the ole’ about me section (but never fear, the old “About Me” and “Contacting Me” sections which proved remarkably popular are still below this, for your perusal so you can discover the me of olden days…(i.e. 2012)).

The last year has been a dramatic one for this magic-wielding hero person. After destroying the evil llama king and his custard apple minions, they attempted to reincarnate themselves in the form of pygmy shrews and a small handful of lychees, which proved somewhat ineffective. But the hero drank too much coffee and began to have a deep philosophical conversation with a talking pistachio, and so the shrews of doom and their lychees of sweet, succulent…also doom decided now was the moment to strike while the hero was in mid-hallucination. However, they were in for a surprise, as it was all a set-up, and the talking pistachio was in fact a human person thing (one of the lychees had insisted that pistachios were A LOT smaller than that, but nooo, the shrews didn’t listen did they?) and suddenly the bad guys were being eaten by the good guys! Hang on, this just got weird and twisted.

Excuse me a moment…

*super clichéd action movie sound effects are heard in the background*

Okay, that takes care of him. Sorry about that folks, back to a normal about me section now.

I’m a writer, I’d say aspiring but let’s be honest – I write, so I’m a writer. I write all sorts of books, stories and poetry, whatever takes my fancy at the time – I don’t like to stick to any one genre particularly, and at the end of the day there are only really three kinds of writing: bad writing, good writing, and extremely good writing. My reading habits are all over the place as a result. I also have participated in NaNoWriMo for four years in a row now, and have won each year. My NaNo novels so far have been a dystopian fantasy (which wasn’t very good), a historical fiction (which had some potential), a psychological thriller (which I actually quite liked and want to rewrite), and a weird comedy thing (that fell apart due to a lack of passion on my part).

Aside from this, I’m also a high school teacher, am deeply interested in all aspects of the arts, music, movies, comedy, food, neurology, history, languages, and the world in general. I currently live in Australia (though was born in England), where everything is entirely dangerous (or so the rest of the world believes, but hey, I’m still kicking. Right? I am still alive aren’t I? Oh please tell me I’m alive!?!), quite hot and regularly on fire, under water, being blown away, eaten by a shark and whatever other stereotypes you want to throw at me. No, actually Australia isn’t that bad, and it is a beautiful place with a quirky bunch of people living here, with an even quirkier sense of humour. You’ll like it, I promise.

Make sure to comment on my posts if you have anything to add or share, as I love good conversations flowing on my blog, and you can find me on Twitter at @abritishperson where I tend to mostly tweet silly stuff, and the occasional interesting thing I find. But mostly silly stuff.

Until next time….G’day!

…Meanwhile,  10 seconds later….

“What? No, Evil Pygmy Shrew, you can’t say hello. Why? Because I just banished you from this world, what are you even doing here? No you can’t borrow a dollar, what do I look like, some kind of charity hero? Oh fine. Here. Go. Before I eat you again.”

January 2012

I guess I should write something clever and interesting about myself here, something that will make readers want to return to this blog. But it has to be believable, so I can’t say something like, “I ride unicorns on Tuesdays and Saturdays, the latter while I drink whiskey” because nobody will believe me (unless you’re super awesome).

So I guess I’ll be serious and write an honest about me type blurb. I was born in England in the decade before the decade before the decade before this decade, despite only being a quarter century old. As a young child, I was given magic powers to search out and destroy the evil llama king and his custard apple minions.

Sorry.

Serious. Okay. I’m just a guy who says things about things and sometimes writes them down. I read, write, teach, love, fly, timetravel…ahem…and I live in Australia. Sometimes I like to travel by kangaroo (this is a lie, nobody actually does this).

Okay that’ll do. Any questions? Nope. Jolly good.

    • Thank you so much, that’s very kind of you!
I must confess I agonised over the title for quite a long time, but I think once this one floated across my mind’s vision I knew that I had found a winner. I feel like especially this year, in a year in which I am recklessly creating stories, novellas, novels, blogs, poetry, and all sorts, it just describes my state of mind really well. Hopefully I can live up to the expectations that come (for me at least) with a title like this.
Thanks again for your comments and well wishes, I’ll do my best to live up to my promises and wantonly create like there’s no tomorrow! 🙂

    • Thanks, glad to hear! Still getting the hang of this blogging thing (it’s only 3 weeks old), so it’s good to hear people are liking my ramblings about books and things. I definitely have many many more to talk about, so keep dropping by! I will make sure to keep visiting your blog too!

  1. Well, g’day from California! In addition to traveling by kangaroo, I would suggest that all Aussie bloggers post audio versions of their posts, just so I can hear your guys’ accents! haha 😀

    • Hahaha, that’s funny! Funnily enough, I was born in England and moved to Australia when I was quite little, so I have a mostly Aussie accent but with a little bit of British in there as well – I probably sound like an Aussie from the 1800s or something.
I’d love to go to California one day though, as well, it sounds and looks so nice there! 🙂

    • Thank you very much, that’s very kind of you to say! It’s funny, when I wrote the About page, I think I had written one blog post, and I still had no idea where the blog was going. I remember thinking “when I have a direction in this blog, I’ll write a proper About page.” A few months, many posts and a definite content direction later, and I have the distinct feeling my About page won’t be changing any time soon 😛

  2. Hi there, thanks for stopping by on my blog and liking the post “Silence day in Bali”. Glad you did, because now I found your blog too! Will be coming later for a closer look, once I find a faster Internet…

    See you!

    • Thank you all the same, it still means a lot that other people would think of me when nominating people for any award, regardless of whether I have it or not! And I’m glad to see you were nominated for it, you have a fantastic blog and you definitely deserve it! 🙂

    • Awww really? You are too kind! And also, I am glad I can make you smile and laugh – it always makes my day better to know I can help someone smile or laugh (it’s actually one of my little daily goals 😛 ).
Thank you for the renomination and the kind words!

      • You are quite welcome—any chance to help someone achieve their daily goal as giving as making a person smile—I shall visit daily and just smile!

By the by, you are the reason I started reading P. G. Wodehouse. I’m surprised, then again maybe not, that I hadn’t read any of his works before. Brilliant they are though with such arid humor tempered with humidity. I’m really enjoying them.

        • Hahaha, thank you! 🙂
And ahh, I had noticed you were reading Wodehouse actually on your little GoodReads tab on your blog! Awesome, I am glad you are enjoying reading that one! He has nearly a hundred more so if you enjoy it there’s always more to read. They’re all much the same, but it’s kind of a good thing with his writing, I think. Great description of his writing you gave, too! 🙂
And it’s funny you should mention you hadn’t read any of his works before – I only discovered him a couple of years ago myself, and only because Stephen Fry kept talking about him (part of Fry’s 3 W’s of literature, Wilde, Wodehouse and Waugh), but I am glad I have discovered him. And I am happy to know others are enjoying him too!

  3. I refuse to not believe that you ride unicorns on Tuesdays. Also, I recently came across the Easter Llama at a mall. I think he must work for the evil llama king because there is nothing more wrong than a porky bunny riding a llama covered in pastel flowers (all in the background of children getting their pictures taken with the Easter bunny).

    • Hahaha, thank you for refusing to disbelieve the incredible feat that is my unicorn riding ability.
Easter Llama? Oh dear…that does sound rather repulsive and vile, I’m not even entirely sure my mind is capable of coming up with an image of that, it’s like my brain has just blocked it out before it even had a chance! That evil Llama King is becoming more diabolical by the day…I may need to resume my search for him so I can use my magic powers against him! But first, a coffee. Even magicians who ride unicorns need coffee, especially at 11pm. 😛

    • Thank you so much for nominating me for this, it’s very kind of you! 🙂 Haha, as if I’d hate you for it? 😛 I guess I shall have to fill in my details for it then so that it goes through before the cut-off date which I think is tomorrow!
Thank you again, I really appreciate it! 😀

      • Sure. I thought you deserved it. 🙂
I considered asking you about it first, but then I saw the deadline and thought it’d be cutting it a little too close. Anyway, let me know how it goes! 🙂

        • Hahaha yeah it was getting close to the deadline. I’ve put through my entry completely now, and have entered some of the special awards categories as well, such as the young blogger (I turn 26 a couple of weeks after the comp ends, so I just make it through on this one) and the new blogger (for blogs under 6 months old) awards. And I’ve put my blog into the people’s choice awards too (apparently 80% of entrants do), so when people’s choice voting goes live tomorrow afternoon I’ll be posting on here to let everybody know about it! Excited, but quite nervous now too!
          Thank you again! 🙂

          • Also just found out I’m up against 900 other entrants, including 165 for the new blogs and a bit over 100 for the young blogger. About 12% of entrants are in the “words and writing” category. So I’m up against a bit of competition but….it should be fun anyway 😀

            • The new blogger was what made me decide to nominate you, because for a blog just about four months old, yours is pretty impressive. 🙂
Good luck! I hope you get it!

P.S. The shiny new Nominee sticker looks awesome sitting up there. 😛

              • Awwww thank you hahah, that really means a lot to hear that! I can’t believe it’s only been four months really, it feels like I’ve been blogging forever. I went back and looked at my earliest posts yesterday and it felt like a lifetime ago I wrote those. But it has been a great few months, that’s for sure! And I’ve met some pretty awesome people along the way, too 😉
And I agree, the nominee sticker looks awesome hey?! Looks very professional 😛

                  • Hmmm that wouldn’t be silly if you wanted to make one! Even if it’s just one to use for the posts you make on it or something? I think I will wait until after this comp is over next month before I do the music thing, because I kind of entered the words and writing category in the comp, and music would fit under a different category so…once it’s over, I’ll add in the music challenge! In the meantime I’ll still reply to yours so I might give you some ideas for new music! 😀 Plus I still update the music page on my blog every week or two! 🙂

                    • Ah, too much work. And I’m too lazy. Shame, I love stickers. 😛
And, yes. That makes sense. You should do that. I’m not complaing, seeing as you’ve promised to throw recommendations at me. 🙂

    • Hahaha I could never tire of getting awards 😛 But thank you very much, that is very kind of you to think of me for this! I will post about it a bit further down the track (with the awards I’ve gotten plus this Best Aussie Blog award I’m contending for, I don’t want to post too much about awards – but I will get back to this one, I promise!) 🙂

    • Thank you so much, no I don’t have that one yet! 😀 I will write my post on it down the track – I’m just waiting for the Best Aussie Blogger Awards comp to end before I write any more awards posts, but after that I have a little bit of catching up to do on that front, including this one now too!
      Thanks again! 🙂

        • Thank you 😀 I don’t know if I’ll win, but I have certainly given it a run for its money, and everyone has been so supportive with it I am just utterly blown away and feel very lucky and blessed.
I like the reader appreciation award – what a clever idea! Am looking forward to writing this one! 🙂

  4. Heeeeeyyy!!! I saw you leaving a comment on my last post. Nice knowing you! =) and oh my. you’ve got a lovely crowd in your page. Now, you can count me in your followers! =)

    • Hahaha thank you so much! 😀 And yes, it is quite the amazing crowd I have as my regular readers – I am very lucky to have met such great people through blogging.
I’ve followed you as well, I tried to earlier but it didn’t work for some reason. But it’s fine now. 🙂

  5. I love your Blog. It’s absolutely wonderful. I just started using WordPress and have no clue how to manipulate it. Any suggestions on the format of my blog or tips on WordPress on how to change things? I love your format. Absolutely brilliant. And the reviews of ‘The Hunger Games’ trilogy were wonderful. Would love to see a review of a Thomas Pynchon novel.
Take care friend. Keep it up!

    • Thank you so much for the kind words! It’s always nice to know people actually enjoy my often nonsensical or just silly ramblings about stuff. Also glad to know people liked my HG reviews, I was worried they might not because I tend to write reviews differently though I’m not entirely sure in what way, haha.
Anyhu, I know how you feel about manipulating WordPress – I only started blogging 4 months ago myself, and initially mine was very blank. It probably took a couple of months to personalise it to the point it is now, and even then I tweak stuff every now and then.
Everything you’ll want to use to change the way your blog looks is under the tab “Appearance” on the left hand column on your dashboard, in particular the first 6 buttons that come up when you hover over Appearance – theme, widgets, menus, theme options, header, background. You’ll want to set your theme and theme options up first, my one is just called Pilcrow. Then for the background I just found the image on google images and tiled it across the background, and under the header option I eventually took a photo of my own bookshelf, and wrote over the top of it (I just used Paint because I’m lazy), and when you insert an image into the header it allows you to crop it to fit, which is useful. Once you’ve got all of these things done, Widgets is the tab where the fun really begins (I apparently have 14 active widgets). Luckily WordPress automatically has most of these – it has all the different submenus that I’ve created down the side, and the twitter feed is already there – you just have to drag it across in your widgets menu (you’ll see what I mean). The only ones I’ve had to add manually are the images (I upload them in the media tab, then just link the image widget to the url of the image…it makes more sense when you do it), and the Goodreads Reading Challenge, which the Goodreads website supplies code to just put in for that one.
So that’s the main gist of it. Everything you need is under Appearance, and Widgets are the key, though you’ll want to set up the other aspects first. Hope this helps, and good luck with it! (It gets a lot more addictive once you get the hang of it!) 🙂

  6. You’re welcome. And, thank you for the thought to just shout 😀 Looks like you are favorite around here with so many bloggers awarding you!! 😀 Went through your link – the middle finger episode is hilarious! If only, all of us were that lucky! It was nice reading those facts about you – like, we know you a little more now 🙂

    • Haha, I know, it’s incredibly flattering actually to have so many people appreciate my ramblings, and it definitely keeps me motivated to keep writing. When I started this blog just 4 months ago I never in my wildest dreams thought it would turn into what it has become, and never realised I was going to meet so many amazing people through it!
Glad you liked that story about my middle finger, that one has always given me the giggles. For a 13, 14 year old boy that was just the funniest and most (un)fortunate thing to happen, haha.
And thank you so much for voting for me, I really do appreciate it! 😀

    • Thank you so much! 😀 I have that award already but when I eventually do my big awards catch up I plan on doing in the very near future, I will make sure to give you a big shout out for this one! I feel very overwhelmed by all the blog love, though in a good way of course 😛
P.s. Just started listening to Storm Corrosion for the 8th time. I know. I am so mean. 😛

    • Ahhh thank you so much! That’s very kind of you! It might take me a week or two to get my post up on it, just because I am a little backlogged, but I will definitely get it up as soon as possible! Thank you again! 🙂

    • Ahhh thank you so much! I have some major catching up to do with awards posts over the next week or so, but I will get to posting on this award and doing a shout out for you when I do! Thank you! 🙂

    • Thank you so much! I am glad my about section has entertained so many people…especially as it was never my intention to turn out the way it did (I just didn’t know what to say about myself so I kept rambling and..well…this page happened. 😛 ).
      Love your blog too 🙂

        • I really like your about section actually, it’s good! 🙂
I must confess I do always jump to the about section of a blog pretty quickly – I am always curious to know more about the person behind the blog. Though I have revealed more about me in some of the recent posts about myself, but still….I like to think my personality is revealed in different ways on my about page. I kept meaning to change mine but it’s become quite popular so I might just leave it. Maybe one day I’ll add to it. We’ll see. 😛

  7. I hope you don’t mind – I have nominated you for the Sunshine Award – for full details please see

    Sunshine Award

I think your blog is inspiring and pretty special!
Please feel free to take part only if you want to – if you do not take part in awards then please just take this as a big thank you and a shout out for your blog!!
    Alex

    • Oh thank you so much! I actually already have this award from a little while ago (there’s a post on it in my ‘Awards’ category on the side menus), but I still greatly appreciate being thought of for it again. At some point in the future I’m going to try and track down all the renominations for various awards and thank people for them!
Thank you again, it’s very kind of you! 🙂

    • Thank you so much! I actually just posted on this last week (but I was lazy and nominated anybody who wanted to be nominated for it hahaha). But it is always appreciated to be nominated for these things, and to know people think of me 😛 So thank you!

    • Thank you so much! That’s very kind of you! 🙂
Oh by the way, for some weird reason this comment went into my spam folder…you might want to check it hasn’t done the same for other people you nominated for this, just in case!

    • Ahhh thank you so much! 🙂
Just one thing though…I have more than 200 followers (about 287 I think). Should I still accept it? I’m more than happy to, but if there’s someone else under 200 you want to give it to, then let me know. I’d just rather be honest about it now than blurt it out when I write my post on it (which would be in a little while as I have two other awards posts I need to get to as well). But thank you for the thought all the same, just let me know what you want to do.

      • HA! Go for it! I actually realized after I posted it that I didn’t even pay attention to that “under 200” bit, I made a list of who I wanted to send it to, so feel free to post away! 🙂

And no rush on the posting, it’s actually taken me at least 2 weeks to get around to, I’m embarrassed to admit!

        • Hahaha okay, sounds good! I don’t think all blogs even display the amount of followers actually? I know I set mine to, but I wonder if it only shows the number to people who aren’t following me? Oh well, doesn’t really matter – I think it’s more aimed at blogs that are newer or younger, and mine has only just hit the 6 month old point so I definitely still fit into that category. 😛
I’ll post it soon, this music challenge thing is just so time consuming this month, and work has been hectic. If I don’t get to it in the next week I will definitely get around to it in early August – I’m going to try and post the first of my other award posts today if I can (coincidentally, the Booker award).
          Thanks again! 🙂

          • Ha too funny. yes my counter shows I have 154 followers if you look on my blog, but that includes Twitter followers, so I technically still have less than 100 blog followers. That’s why I removed my link to Facebook, because it was also including all my friends there, so it was showing that I had over 900 followers…lies!

The music challenge is pretty interesting, but I can definitely see how it would be time consuming! Have fun 🙂

            • Ahhh yeah I had heard you could do that, add your twitter and FB followers to the blog followers. I don’t know how to do that though, I keep my FB completely disconnected from my blog and fairly private anyway, and Twitter I’m only showing my tweets. But yeah, I went through a couple of months where my followers just leaped up and up, but it’s definitely slowed down in the past couple of months. Anyway, the number itself doesn’t really bother me – I have a bunch of awesome regular readers, and a bunch of awesome blogs I regularly read and follow (mostly these groups are one and the same), and that’s the main thing for me at the moment. Everything else is just a bonus haha 🙂
Oh hey, I just realised your last comment on my About page is the 100th comment on it, hooray! 😀 Even if it’s really like, 10 or 20 long threads haha, but still!

              • I know what you mean. It’s actually once you link to your FB or Twitter accounts (somewhere in the sharing settings, I believe) it automatically includes the followers in your count. But only in your stats will you see the breakdown; the counter that appears on your blog is one number.

                Hooray for 100! 🙂

                • Ohhhh okay, I know what you mean. Yeah, I haven’t set it to automatically share or anything so I don’t think that’s switched on with my blog. Though sometimes these things switch themselves on, it tried to on my Goodreads account with FB and Twitter, which kind of annoyed me. FB just likes to connect itself to everything it can, I’m very close to just deleting the stupid thing. It’s been a nice five years but the love affair with it is well and truly over, bahahaha 😛

  8. Pingback: Tagged–Watch Out, I’m It… « cricketmuse

    • Ah thanks! Haha so this would be the fourth time I’ve been tagged in this, but while I’m not going to redo the whole tag post, I will answer the 33 questions posed by you and the other two people who’s questions I am yet to answer, all in one big post which I am currently writing. So expect to see that either this morning or later this weekend, depending on how long it takes me to answer the questions…(I’m sure by now you’re aware of my general habit of rambling on).
Thanks again, very kind of you! 🙂

  9. MATT! Hello. =)
I was just wondering if you’d like to lead The Hobbit discussion one week? There are nineteen chapters, and we’ve thought of covering six chapters every week, but I wanted different people to lead the discussion every week. Plus, seeing as you haven’t read it before, you’d pick up on things I might miss. What do you say? 🙂

    • WHY HELLO THERE!
Oh yeah, have we started reading The Hobbit now? It’s this week huh? Yeah, I could lead the discussion one of the weeks, maybe not this week as I’m sick and don’t know how much reading I’ll get done (like I might be charging through it suddenly at the end), but maybe the 2nd or 3rd week? So yeah, sure, count me in, I’d happily do that! 🙂

      • Thank you so much. I’ll put you down for the second week, alright? That’s about when things start getting interesting. 🙂

And yes, we start tomorrow. I’ll put up a post, send out notices, and then (finally) we can get started. I’m excited. 😀

              • The blog. Seeing as how everybody interested already has a WordPress account, it’ll make things easier. 🙂
And yes! The post will be up in..ten minutes?

                  • Done. Haha, sorry. I wasn’t happy with the poster. I’m still not particularly pleased, but eh. It was taking too long.
YAY! We’re finally reading it! Now I just have to go hug my copy and say hello. 🙂

                    • I like the poster, it looks cool! Did you make that? 🙂
I started reading last night, I’m super tired though so I didn’t quite finish chapter 1. But I can always catch up on the weekend if need be. But I like the voice of it – it’s very clearly a children’s book (even if it does have Tolkien’s trademark “let’s see how long I can take to write a quite simple image/event/thing” haha).

  10. Good heavens. I think you need a link at the top that will jump to the bottom of your About page. 😛
Haha, yes, I did. I’m still grumbling about it, but I should probably just let it go.
I haven’t started! *runs around in circles like a headless chicken* AAAH!
I’m reading V for Vendetta right now and it’s fabulous. I’ll probably finish and then start The Hobbit. I have a feeling that once I start, I’m going to race through it. So, more of a stopping than a starting problem, I think. 😛

    • Hmmm hahaha I wonder if there is a way to do that? There must be somewhere… 😛
Are you making the appropriate sounds as you run around like a headless chicken? Oh wait they need the head to make the sounds and…erm….never mind.
Ahh I’ve wanted to read V for Vendetta, I loved the movie of it. But yes, I will catch up on The Hobbit soon. 🙂

      • I’m pretty sure there is. If I figure it out, I’ll let you know. 🙂

Pwahahaha, I burst out laughing when I read that. 😀
You have to. Alan Moore is a GENIUS. And that’s a very special word reserved for the likes of Mozart, Einstein and Neil Gaiman. So, well, get reading! 😛

        • Cool, please do! I know there is a way to reverse the order of the comments so the newest appear at the top, but I don’t think I’d want that for all the posts, that’d just become confusing (for me, anyway, hahaha).
So with these discussions regarding The Hobbit, on that date for the second week, the 26th I think it was, do you want me to just ask questions for people to discuss basically? Like write a blog post of sorts with the questions, ready for that date?

          • Yup, you could do that. I’m sending you an author invite from Writers’ Bloc, okay? Check your mail in a little bit, and it should be there. Once you accept, it’ll give you the authority to draft out posts and publish them, so you can have the discussion questions up on the 25th. Or you can just send me an e-mail, and I can put it up for you. Either one will do. 🙂

  11. Hi there The Other Watson…. is there another? or, are you on a deep cover op?…And I can’t quite get to grips about the ‘not really riding unicorns on Tuesdays and Saturdays’..Of course not..haha.. that’s because all the Unicorns are in China on Tuesdays and Saturdays 🙂

You have a great blog here, very informative and very funny :)…Oh BTW, thanks for stopping by one of my blogs http://reflectionsofchina.wordpress.com for leaving the likes and for the follow , it is appreciated….I too will follow. Thanks again Mark

    • There are many of us, or so I’m told. But I agreed with The Watson and The Other Other Watson that I fell somewhere in between the two of them! And ahhhh, that’s where those unicorns had gotten to…
Thanks for your kind words about my blog! 🙂 And not a problem about following your blog, there’s some great photos in there, and I really want to visit China one day, more so after seeing photos like that. 🙂

  12. Greetings from a fellow Wodehouse devotée! I just stumbled on your genteel and hospitable blog this evening, casting about for mentions of music in Wodehouse, as I do now and then. Noting your noble work in spreading the gospel of PGW, as well as your interest in music (and willingness to comment intelligently on both), I would be pleased to send you something which involves both: viz., my own recently issued CD of Wodehouse songs. It debuted at the last convention of The Wodehouse Society (Detroit, Oct. 2011), and my collaborator and I are now plotting vol. 2, to coincide with the Chicago event next year.

Some of your grateful Wodehouse converts may have been too busy reading the novels, stories, articles from periodicals, et al. to have discovered that PGW had a nice little prior career: re-jiggering American musical theater along with Jerome Kern, starting around 1917. Our modest offering is mainly non-Kern, and most of it has never been recorded. (There are only a couple hundred or so lyrics remaining, so we should wind up the project in about 2079.)

So fork over your physical address, my dear Watson, and I shall pack up a CD with all haste and care, and toddle down to the village PO pronto.

Best regards from the sadly wombat-deficient Great Plains of the USA!

    • Oh wow, that sounds great! I must confess, I was unaware of PGW’s musical career, though it does not surprise me, either.
I will get back to you about this when I return from England, for I fear something sitting in my mail while I am gone for so long will not remain there until I come back (not that where I live is super dodgy or anything, but the mail perhaps is. Luckily I don’t get too much).
Thank you so much for you comment, it’s always great to hear from people as passionate and enthusiastic as yourself.
      Will chat soon! 🙂

    • Hahaha why thank you, that’s very kind of you! I thought I already had this award, but it turns out I just have one awfully similar (I think I thought I was nominated for it twice and I maybe got these two awards mixed up, quite a long time ago, but oh well). Anyway, thank you, I will accept this, though I have another award I was nominated for months ago, before my England trip, that I completely forgot about in all the madness at the end of last year so I will need to do that one first. Or maybe I’ll do both in the same post, I’m not quite sure.
      Anyway, thank you again! 🙂

    • Why thank you! 🙂 I’m glad to hear you liked the new turn in the rather dramatic events that are my life, and my quest to vanquish the evil until-recently-llama-king-and-his-custard-apple-minions! 😉
And thanks, I’m glad you like the design. It’s just nice to have it cleaner, I feel like I can breathe easier almost (which is a bit weird now that I come to think of it).

    • Thank you so much, that’s very kind of you. I’ll get around to looking into it on the weekend when I have a bit more time to spare (am overrun with writing school reports at the moment, bleh)! Thank you again! 🙂

    • Haha thank you, I do my best to keep it entertaining between being really silly and genuinely making big changes in my life :p I think the next update on it needs to be silly again though.

    • Oh thank you! I think it’s become increasingly less silly over the years – my initial about me was just downright ludicrous (if you read that far down, it’s at the bottom of the page now). I need to update this soon, I think. Maybe in a few months, as I have a lot about to happen that would be fun to include in the next About Me page. At any rate, thank you, I’m glad you like my ramblings! 🙂
